The Senior selectors role is linked to the selection of the Munster Senior interprovincial team each year. The selection committee is usually made up of about 5 -6 Munster Tennis branch members and they set out the criteria that are used for the team selection.
Working closely with the non-playing captain, they organise squad training sessions along with looking at the player’s season results to assist in the team selection.
There are 10 players picked on the team comprising of 5 men and 5 women. The format of play consists of 2 men’s singles matches, 2 ladies singles matches, a men’s doubles match and a ladies doubles match. Each province plays the other 3 provinces in half day sessions/rubbers.
Having 5 men and 5 women on the team allows the non-playing captain to alternate players for each session/rubber as he/she sees fit to give the province the strongest possible chance of success.
