Munster tennis Key Activities - Administration
- Contributes to Tennis Ireland activities – Two Representative Directors attend Board meetings, various members of the Branch serve on sub-committees
- The Branch hosts Interprovincial matches, National Match-plays etc
- Meets as a branch on a monthly basis to discuss any relevant member club issues and the development of the sport in general
- Maintains this website which keeps members up to date on Munster Branch Competitions, access to documents such as ITF rules, the current player grading directory and other useful documents
- Maintains a presence on Twitter and facebook
- Employs an Administrator to organize and communicate with tennis clubs, Munster Tennis, and the general public
- Promotes Tennis as a Sport throughout Munster
Munster tennis Key Activities - Staff
- Munster Tennis, along with Tennis Ireland, employ a Regional Development Officer (RDO) for the Munster Area
- Munster Tennis supports one Enjoy Tennis officer who runs the programme for players with disabilities
- The RDO facilitates affiliated clubs with club Development, which includes :
- Organisation & Management
- Safety, Risk Management & Inclusion
- Organisation of play-and-stay activities including
- Coaching & competition
- Outreach programmes
- Communication and PR
- Three Performance Coaches are funded by Munster Tennis, with responsibility for the development of performance juniors in the province and coordination with the National Performance Officer within Tennis Ireland
Munster tennis Key Activities - Junior tennis
- Organises Junior Match plays at Regional and Provincial level for Junior players during the Winter - one series in November and one series in February/March
- Oversees and facilitates Junior Competitions for Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, in all age groups
- Selects and co-ordinates Junior Interprovincial Teams
- Supports Junior Rankings
- Squad Development - Junior Squads, both development and performance squads are set up in the three main regions in the province, Limerick, Waterford and Cork.
- Children from the ages of 6 to 16 form part of these squads and training sessions run from 2 to 6 hours depending on the age/standard of the players
- Provides Tennis 10’s Competition throughout the region
- Oversees all of the Junior Open Tournaments which provides great opportunities for competitive participation in the sport
MUNSTER TENNIS KEY ACTIVITIES - senior TENNIS
- Manage various events and competitions, including:
- Senior Winter League which attracts a huge entry and provides competition throughout the winter for all the participants. In 2016/2017 there was an entry of 179 teams (which equates for in excess of 750 players), playing over 1200 matches across the province
- Summer Cup competitions with 14 events for all grades of player
- Senior Spring League in the Cork city and county area
- Maintains an up-to-date grading system for all senior & veteran players on the basis of which Open Tournaments, Club Tournaments, Munster Branch Competitions are run
- Oversee all of the Senior Open Tournaments which provides great opportunities for competitive participation in the sport
- Selects and co-ordinates Senior Interprovincial Teams
- Coordinates Enjoy Tennis Program (Tennis for People with a Disability) with Tennis Ireland in Munster
